With the targeting system in place and a test dummy ready for some punishment, I felt the need for some visual relief, thus the spell effects were born! I spent some time creating custom particle effects to represent my scaled down scope of 3 spells for the mage duels project. From left to right they are the holy spell – a healing based effect, the frost spell – dealing direct damage with a slowing effect, and the fire spell – dealing direct damage with a damage over time effect. These effects were assigned to the appropriate spells to instantiate upon casting.
